Ken
Davis (Former Pottstown Teacher & Basketball
Coach) by sharing some of his career accomplishments as
listed in the program for his induction into the Montgomery
County Coaches Hall of Fame.
"1980
- Ken Davis was named head coach of the
Pottstown Trojans. Despite being one of the smallest schools
in the Ches-Mont League Pottstown appeared in four of
the league's Final Four Championship games and went 61-22
under Davis. Then after moving to the Pioneer Athletic
Conference in 1986 Pottstown became one of the new alignment's
most dominant teams - in all sports-under Davis' direction.
Davis'
up-tempo offense and smothering defense would guide the
Trojans to eight league championships and one runner-up
finish,and an eye-opening 151-10 overall record against
Pac-10 rivals. But his game plans, and his knack for being
able to adjust to opponents schemes helped the Trojans
bounce their way into postseason spotlight as well.
Under Davis, Pottstown basketball teams swept the District
1-Class AA title in 1983 then moved up into the Class
AAA bracket and won six of its district final appearances-
capturing back-to-back titles in 1988 and 1989 three straight
from 1991 through 1993 and one more in 1995.
Thirteen of his 17 teams qualified for the
state playoffs. Seven shot their way to the quarterfinals,
and three others won their Eastern Finials, two of which
came up short in thrilling state finals against Perry
(1991) and Blackhawk (1995). But it was the team in between-1993-
that went all the way, shooting past Valley 85-66, for
the PIAA-Class AAA state title.
In between all those championship runs,Davis led Pottstown
to nine Christmas tournament titles and was court side
when the Trojans won the McDonald's Tip-Off Classic in
1992 and 1994. Before retiring with an overall career
won-loss record of 374-101, Davis was named the Coach
of the Year once each by the Daily Local News, the Tri-County
Old-Timers Association, and the Ches-Mont League Basketball
Coaches Association, and six times by The Mercury, and
inducted into The Montgomery County Coaches Hall of Fame
on November 24,2009."
